Chinese Watercolor Technique
In this 2 hour workshop, you’ll learn traditional Chinese watercolor painting techniques. I’ll teach you the differences between Western and Eastern watercolor brushes, papers, and paints; and how to hold the brush, paint on xuan paper, and how to ‘load’ brushes with one color, two colors and even three colors.
This is a great workshop for artists expanding their technical repertoire as well as those interested in brush painting techniques used in Chinese, Japanese and Korean traditional brush paintings. Participants will have time to explore using their newly learned techniques to create a painting on their own. Painting experience is not required but could be beneficial.

PAINTING WITH INK
Painting with Ink
Register for the Painting with Ink workshop. We’ll take a look at the marvelous interactions between ink (墨) and raw rice paper (生宣), the 5 shades of ink and how to use them while painting a subjectWe’ll also talk about freehand brush painting techniques and how to combine them with the skills we've learned.
Designed to be taken after the Chinese Watercolor Technique workshop, this is a fun class where we'll get to focus on ink, a trickier medium to work with compared to Chinese watercolors. That said, beginners and artists alike will enjoy the class, and starting with this workshop is also okay but could be a bit more challenging. Those who love Chinese, Japanese or Korean traditional brush paintings will gain a deeper appreciation of this 1500+ year old art form and a better understanding of one of it’s foundational techniques.
